Syracuse lacrosse player Brad McKinney charged with possession of alcohol

Syracuse midfielder Brad McKinney has been charged with possession of alcohol, according to police.

The sophomore, 19, was charged at 3:37 a.m. in his hometown of Watertown, New York early Thursday morning. He is scheduled to attend a hearing in City Court on June 22. According to detective lieutenant Joseph Donoghue, McKinney was intoxicated at the time he was detained. He was also carrying the alcoholic beverage Pabst Blue Ribbon, Donoghue said.

He was returned to his parents following the incident, Donoghue said.

An SU Athletics spokesman told The Daily Orange that they were aware of the situation and looking into it.

McKinney is the second Syracuse men’s lacrosse player to get arrested this year. Midfielder Hayes McGinley was arrested on two counts of harassment in the second degree in March after he punched two employees of Insomnia Cookies on Marshall Street in Syracuse. He later pleaded guilty to both charges.

McKinney did not appear in a game for Syracuse this season.
